Venturing further south (warmer), there are many large gravel pits located around the city of Zagreb within easy access of the airport.
The size of fish is very slightly larger on average than Slovenia and the stocks are very similar in numbers providing plenty of action.
It should be noted that most of these pits are large and customers must be comfortable fishing effectively at 100 meters plus which includes casting hook-bait and spombing as no boats are allowed on these lakes.
3 rods maybe used in Croatia.
VIP Carp Holidays offers fishing on one such lake known as Ontario.
This lake is a well-kept secret and as of 2017 Jamie Clossick is probably the only English angler to have fished the great lake.
At around 150 acres the lake holds approximately 120 x 40lb carp, 60 x 50lb carp 10 x 60lb carp and about 6 carp approaching 65-70lb with the record currently at 71lb.
Most of the gravel pits run along side the River Sava and due to the porous nature of the gravel, the river providing the perfect environment for fish to feed and grow throughout the hot summers as it filters the water.
These fish are growing each year at rates as much as 12lb.
The action is furious if you work hard with the Spomb and it is advisable to budget for a lot of bait.
We recommend checking flight availability before booking with us.
We are happy to work the fishing days around your flights and if you would like to add an extra days accommodation to ensure that you have the full 7 days fishing because of late flying times then we are happy to accommodate you.
For instance if a flights arrives late on a Friday (or other) evening we would pick you up and take you to your pre arranged accommodation. (Hotel/Apartment/Campsite)
We would then collect you first thing in the morning and travel to the lake. You could then fish 7 days and fly home the following Saturday.
You could also do this on your last night of the trip and stay in local accommodation and have a night out around the stunning Lake Bled in one of the many bars and restaurants before flying home the following day.
All transfers are included in the price.
